Anyone like lunar series?

Anyone out there collect the Australian lunar series (silver or gold?) I increasingly find myself gravitating to these beautiful coins ...

And before the survivalists kick in, yes, most of my bullion is k-rands and NWM bars and eagles. (limited cheap silver in the UK!). But occasionally you can find a bargain recently I found a gold 1oz rooster for the same price as maples (small dealer overstocked, I guess!!)

Anyone else?

These coins are the product of the Perth Mint. Essentially these are bullion coins, or rounds. Along with these, have been gold nugget coins and so forth. Now there is an enormus variety of designs, and each year is something new.
I'm an Aussie and collect Royal Australian Mint gold coins. Which are more the currency theme.
But some of the Perth Mint rounds are exceedingly uncommon. Sometimes, just a few hundred. Makes me wonder, if the rarer ones will be big time collector stuff someday. Might pay to become familiar with them!

I've got 10-1 kilo coins of the lunar series ....they were my first silver purchases because that was the only thing available in Taiwan at the time.
Although I stick to bullion rounds and bars now for better pricing , I'm glad I have them..they are beautiful!!!

Re: Anyone like lunar series?

The newsletter put out by CMI sometimes contains interesting info on the Perth Mint Lunar Series releases, both gold and silver. The different numbers minted in different years sometimes open up the possibility of a semi-numismatic profit opportunity for certain years of low mintages -- yet if purchased at the right time (when first issued) there's initially no substantial numismatic premium at purchase. CMI's good, I think, at steering people to such opportunities: quite different from some coin peddlers who simply hardsell whatever item currently provides them the biggest markup.

One can almost always anticipate that a complete lunar set (all 12 coins) will be worth more than the total of the 12 coins priced individually. Therefore, I'd suggest that anyone collecting these coins make every effort to complete the series, which (counting the new Dog) has about six or seven more coins to go. I don't know of any other kilo silver coins available for as little over spot, or as attractive or reputable, as the Pert Mint Lunars.

What coins apart from the lunar, nuggets and kookaburras do PM issue?
